Introuducing our newest blog called “Field Notes” which highlights some of the library’s resources and services.
What is a library blog?
A blog is a website in the form of an online journal that presents information in reverse chronological order. You may be wondering what makes blogs an important information resource and tool for you and your library. Blogs are excellent means by which a library can fulfill its role as an information provider. For instance, calendars of events along with news and book reviews can be efficiently disseminated through a library blog (excerpted from Blogging and RSS: A Librarian's Guide by Michael P. Sauers).
How are blogs different from websites?
- Blogs are timely. They are typically updated more frequently than websites-many times a day in some cases. The information provided in blogs is likely to be raw and unfiltered. News and information can be posted with minimal delay, and if it is sufficiently interesting or important, it will be quickly picked up and spread by other bloggers
- Blogs are opinionated. More often than not, a blogger has a personal point of view and expresses it in no uncertain terms in his or her postings.
- Blogs are accessible. While many websites are difficult to navigate or make users jump through hoops to read what they're looking for, blogs are designed for open access.
- Blogs are omnipresent. Any type of information resource of this size will have an affect on the results presented in search engines (excerpted from Blogging and RSS: A Librarian's Guide by Michael P. Sauers).
What is Reads from the Field/Reads from Children’s?
The purpose of this blog is to advise readers about our books and to be a platform for general discussion, allowing readers to voice their opinion about a reviewed book. Reviews are posted by Plainfield Public Library librarians and staff. If you have an opinion about a reviewed book, we would love to hear from you! Anyone is welcome to post a comment.
